FORUM 2018 A free, nine month long, mentoring program for those that wish to build a career in the contemporary visual arts but lack a prolonged experience with professional art world activities. This empowering program is designed as a practical guide to navigating the art world via Q&A sessions with successful professionals (artists, curators, critics and gallerists), culminating with an exhibition, in Gallery Two of the Torrance Art Museum, with the program’s participants. The artists will show their work, the curators will select which works, the writers will write essays for the catalog and gallerists will run the opening and PR for it.

Make plans to stop by the Torrance Art Museum on Saturday August 12th!! The current exhibitions, Why Art Matters and A Vein is Like a River will close at 5 p.m. From 1 - 3 p.m. Extro/Introspection: The work deconstructs the idea of performance through an immersive event that will blur the boundaries between the audience and the performer. This piece is combining dance and art to create a counter dialogue to consumer culture, by emphasizing process over product or spectacle. In this way the dancer becomes a conduit of engagement instead of being the subject of entertainment. Finally, from 4 - 5 p.m. The Rad, Bad and Sad Show: A show about architecture in Los Angeles: After enduring years of car captive commutes through the endless sprawls of Los Angeles, Adam and Ben collect their road spun whimsy to discuss the unsung heroes, haters & heartaches of the architecture they encounter. Rating each masterpiece as Rad, Bad, or Sad; putting an end to the typical endless architectural discussion and deciding once and for all, what these buildings really are. All events are free, as is admission to the museum, however donations are gratefully accepted.
The annual South Bay Focus exhibition of regional art is now open for applications! This year’s Juror is Emily Gonzalez-Jarrett, Curatorial associate with the Hammer Museum! Deadline for Application: October 28th, 2017 Exhibition Dates: December 2 - 15, 2017 We are looking for outstanding art from artists living or working in the South Bay working in all styles and mediums, from painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, sound, video, photography and more. A detailed description is on the application form as well as the rules and guidelines for submitting your application. To apply please fill out the application form and email it with your images to the email address indicated on the form. This juror-selected exhibition is FREE to apply Artists must live or work in these South Bay cities to be eligible to participate: Gardena, Harbor City, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Lawndale, Lomita, Long Beach, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Palos Verdes Peninsula, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, San Pedro, Torrance and El Segundo or have current membership in the Torrance Artist's Guild or the South Bay Water Color Society.
